Mabior walked 40 Kilometers to Memorial Christian Hospital to seek help after having seven days of abdominal pain. Physical examination showed he had a hard tumor, feasible diagnosis was an acute appendicitis or appendix mass.
The following day, Mabior woke up without complaints, then, in the afternoon, he began to have severe pain, and was screaming a lot and vomiting. Suddenly, I called John and Joseph from the eye clinic to help assist me in an emergency laparatomy. I asked my two assistants to put IV lines on the patient while I prepared the OR. Everything was set, and I put the patient on spinal anesthesia. Then, I asked my assistant to pray for the patient and us prior to doing the incision.
The abdominal cavity was very bad inside, we found a necrotic tissue and perforated appendix. We repaired the perforation and washed the abdominal cavity and closed him up. We were also fighting mosquitoes during surgery. The operation took two hours and thirteen minutes.
Mabior has recovered satisfactorily and was discharged to return home 17 days later. Mabior said "I am very thankful to the surgical team at Memorial Christian Hospital, to Partners in Compassionate Care and to God who walked with me from far away and returning home with me cured, now I am alive".
John said, "Dr. Ajak is a man of wise decision making - in three minutes he set up the OR and put the spinal anesthesia in so fast, but he really needs a personal nurse and anesthesia technician to help him."
Joseph added, "Dr. Ajak is a conscious man, very calm and focusing on every aspect that was going on in the operation, and making jokes to let everybody relax including the patient on the operating table. As my colleague John said, he really needs a personal nurse and anesthesia technician to help him."
I am very humble and delighted for working with John and Joseph that night, the two men who had never performed major surgery before in their lives, but stood beside me and we together saved the life of Mabior. I thank God for being with us.
Blessings,
Dr. Ajak
